Kununurra, Day 70, 6th July

Purnululu – Kununurra (330kms)

Uneventful day driving to Kununurra.  We stopped at Warmun Roadhouse for diesel, pies and coffees.  We had run out of coffee a couple of days earlier. The Great Northern Highway traverses some dramatic landscape of rocky escarpments and pillars of rock.  We emerged onto the plains, and I said we would soon see some cultivated trees on the right (east) side of the road. After numerous false calls, we finally saw the plantation; turns out they were sandalwood trees, and each tree is grown alongside a different tree (fig?) that acts as a source of food.  Arrived in Kununurra, and stayed in the awkwardly named Kimberleyland Caravan Park on the shore of Lake Kununurra (trying pronouncing it).
